13A – Reading Reflection No. 1
1) You read about an entrepreneur:
- What surprised you the most? That she had several illicit affairs. Some with other women. Also that her designs were seen as rebellious and progressive style.
- What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? Her desire and will to overcome the misfortunes of poverty and being semi abandoned as a child, also just her nonchalant attitude towards taking women out of the stiff fashion into something more comfortable.
- What about the entrepreneur did you least admire? Her lies she would tell about things and then be found out also that she was a conspiring with the Germans during WWII.
- Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
She was willing to fight and fight very hard for her stuff. she was not above getting her hands dirty or using the old time saying of "sleeping your way to the top". People may perceive this as crude and not a "competencies" but it is, and that's the only way she made it to the top so quickly because she had no station in life, she was a nobody with a beautiful face and body.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
Nothing was truly confusing to me, it was pretty simple. i do plan to read again and more slowly to truly understand. I love reading and watching biographies of famous fashion houses. I have watched Yves Saint Laurent's documentary on Netflix several times. I feel the only thing that i had to re read in the book was her legal battles. (legal vernacular was a little challenging)
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
I think I would ask her point blank on her position of the Holocaust and Hitler? The reason is in her life she showed many many displays of being anti Semitic so I would like to know the absolute truth and have it documented.
If she herself came from poverty and struggled to obtain her wealth why would she make her designs quite un-affordable for an everyday woman? The reason for this is because yes things go on sale and we have outlets but it still is something you would think to have something affordable for the masses if she too was part of the masses.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I think her opinion was work very hard in every aspect of your life and you will achieve that. I believe strongly that her work ethic reflected this on how she gained success.
